Honorary doctorate for Piers Morgan? Not quite.

By hannah

Hugh Muir’s diary in the Guardian reported today that Piers Morgan is soon to be awarded an honorary doctorate from Harlow College.

Great news for the former Mirror editor – if it had been true.

“He brought you showbiz in the Sun, sensation in the News of the World, and those unfortunately doctored pictures in the Mirror,” Muir wrote.

“It has been some career and Piers Morgan will be pleased when he learns of plans to mark it with an honorary doctorate from Harlow College, in Essex, where it all began.”

A spokeswoman for Harlow College said it couldn’t award an honorary doctorate to Morgan, even if it wanted to, because it’s not a university.

Harlow offers a Level 4 NCTJ course, which was taken by Morgan “years back”. It does not offer degrees.
